I’m a dad from a pretty typical family. We’re a lot like a lot of other families in Oak Bay- working, running our kids around between activities, taking time to help out at school and with organizations we’re passionate about.

When we moved here, I loved how our family fit right in to the community on our block and neighbourhood; we’ve got long-term residents, new arrivals and kids across a range of ages. It’s welcoming and supportive, just like us!

We wanted to live in Oak Bay for the same reason so many others do – walkable neighbourhoods, natural beauty, accessible amenities and most of all, a strong sense of community. When we made our home here I wanted to get involved quickly in that community and make a commitment to being an engaged citizen. I joined the Advisory Planning Commission to use my experience in environmental protection and sustainability for the benefit of residents and council, and joined the board of the nonprofit Greater Victoria Placemaking Network to help further the vision of exciting public spaces across the region. My involvement in the community led to an invitation to participate in the Mayor’s Task Force on Public Engagement. Over this time I’ve talked to our mayor & council, staff and hundreds of my fellow residents.

When some of these great people that I got to know – community leaders, longstanding residents and friends – began to tell me they thought I would make a good candidate in the upcoming election I was extremely gratified, and happy. I felt that my efforts to really get to know my community and be a positive force had been successful. I’m excited to work on your behalf as councilor.

I’ve heard from neighbours, both longstanding and new that they’re passionate about making sure we keep what makes Oak Bay great. I’m running because I firmly believe that we can meet the challenge of an evolving community while retaining Oak Bay’s unique character. It will take two-way communication, collaboration and a commitment to transparency, but the passion and engagement of this community will make it happen. I look forward to being your representative.
